Keymasterwe used this in the Vegas January class…
the rs 232 cable (cross cable) would not work properly…we tried 2 different cables.
When we switched to USB / serial adapter with a cross cable…the problems were immediately resolved.January 29, 2010 at 11:19 pm #1569Gregg Loewen
KeymasterI did a complete calibration on one last week.
There are no gamma presets in the ISF modes.
the native gamma was around 2-2.1….so use the 15 point adjustment to get the gamma curve down to 2.25-2.3 (or what ever your goal is).May 14, 2010 at 12:10 am #1719Anonymous
InactiveSome notes about doing gamma with the interface to make things go easier.
Switch calman to a 20 or 21 data point layout 5/10/15/20 … so forth
Use the 16 point Gamma selection.
Remember that the 16 points do not correspond to any particular gray box % …
Point 8 seems to impact around the 60% range.
Take your pick but it is better to work on either the bright end of things first or the dark end of things. Easier for your brain to grasp it.
So take point 8 … 9… 10 … 11 … 12 … down a number of points … and this will increase the gamma number … make sure you press the apply all colors button when done.
Now go and bright up gray patterns from 55% up to 100% and measure it all in 5% increments. The gamma numbers should start to come up …
Chances are you will be doing this for 5 or so iterations before you are happy with where the gamma ends up.
Now move onto the dark end of things. Points 7/6/5/4/3 … may end up leaving 1 and 2 alone.
Your instrument won’t work too well when you get to the 5% to 15% patterns so use your eyes here to look for color errors.
Bring down the points and then run a sweep from 15 to 60% and see what is happening. Keep massaging it until you are in whatever range you are aiming for. I try to keep things in the 2.25 to 2.4 range …

InactiveMonth ago I calibrated RS35 using this software and your advices above.
Maybe I am spoiled by ControlCal software how it works on Pioneers plasmas, but I don’t like this JVC software at all. Very slow and not accurate enough. Starts very blue and it is long way down.I quit this software and calibrate this PJ from UM – Custom1 and Custom 2 and got perfect result (attached)
ATTENTION: THX was way off.
It is possible that it was something wrong with bulb’s spectrum because I had to set “R High” to 50.
Look at THX – pre and Custom 1 after calibration.
THX is way off. Any commends? Do you like this software? Was it just something wrong with this PJ?
I will appreciate any comments.Best Regards

InactiveAre there any updates to this software such as support for Windows 7, etc?
Thanks, Larry

I don’t know Ray. After I saw the ISF manual requirements state “A standard PC which is running with Windows XP™ or Windows Vista™ with a RS232C port” I thought that it might not be worth the effort if the SW has not been updated to work with Win 7.
Thanks, Larry
