Just as a follow-up: The calibration actually went pretty well.
I did, in fact, have to use the Cuts/Drives in the SM since the User Menu B/G drives didn’t quite give me a good enough grayscale. I didn’t run into anything quirky in the SM, but I did after using the ColorMaster (CMS) brightness controls in the User Menus. As soon as I touched those and went to view some content, the picture was grainy and contoured as all get out (as noted on the AVSForum by several users)! So, I just had to zero out all the brightness controls in the ColorMaster. The Hue/Sat helped the gamut a bit, and I couldn’t get it adjusted perfectly by any stretch of the imagination, but the color gamut on this TV was better with the ColorMaster on and somewhat adjusted than with it off.
Not a bad picture after calibration, but it’s an older LCD with all the accompanying shortcomings.
Thanks again for the input, Gregg! (With luck, I won’t have too many requests to calibrate more of these, either. 🙂
Best,
Greg
