Training
PVA Training & Certification
Delivered in Partnership with the International Colorist Academy (ICA)
PVA develops and teaches standards-based performance methodology for professionals across the imaging ecosystem.
In collaboration with the International Colorist Academy (ICA), PVA training supports post-production professionals, performance calibration specialists, engineers, and color-critical industries seeking measurable, standards-aligned performance validation.
Our programs are built on a universal framework:
-
Identify the appropriate reference standard
-
Configure the system to reflect that reference
-
Verify and optimize performance against measurable criteria
Whether working in performance home theater, post-production, broadcast, or manufacturing, the objective remains the same: deliver reference-level image fidelity.
PVA training equips professionals to apply current best practice and adapt that methodology as new technologies emerge.

The PVA Training Pathway
Level I – Core: Foundational Reference Systems (2 Days)
Level I establishes the foundational reference architecture upon which modern imaging systems are built.
Participants develop competency in historically established and still-relevant standards, including:
-
Rec.709 color space and Gamma 2.4 reference environments
-
1080p signal structure and bandwidth fundamentals
-
8-bit signal architecture and quantization limits
-
Baseline grayscale and CMS methodology
-
Measurement repeatability and error analysis
-
Signal path optimization and system integrity
Participants gain a software-agnostic understanding of measurement and validation principles, ensuring methodology remains consistent regardless of platform or toolset.
Level I participants receive a Certificate of Completion.
Level II – Advanced: Modern & Expanded Standards (2 Days)
Level II reinforces foundational best practice before expanding into contemporary and emerging technologies.
Areas of study include:
-
UHD (4K) and 8K signal architecture
-
BT.1886 and EOTF validation
-
DCI-P3 and Rec.2020 color spaces
-
10-bit through 16-bit processing implications
-
Wide Color Gamut system behavior
-
HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG implementation
-
Advanced 2D and 3D LUT workflows
-
Performance documentation and defensible validation
Level II prepares professionals to apply structured standards methodology to evolving technologies while maintaining reference discipline.
Certification

Completion of Level I and Level II, successful examination, and documented case studies leads to designation as:
PVA Certified Video Professional
Active certification status is maintained through annual participation in the Professional Video Alliance, reflecting continued alignment with standards-based performance methodology.
The first year of certification maintenance is included with training enrollment.
The Professional Video Alliance
Certification is not the conclusion of PVA training — it is the gateway to professional engagement.
The Professional Video Alliance functions as a collaborative organization dedicated to:
-
Advancing awareness of video and imaging standards
-
Increasing image fidelity across industries
-
Supporting defensible performance methodology
-
Encouraging cross-disciplinary technical dialogue
Active certification maintenance is $100 annually and includes:
-
Active listing in the PVA Certified Finder
-
Ongoing workflow consultation access
-
Participation in professional forums and standards discussion
-
Eligibility for member-exclusive industry discounts
-
Continued engagement with evolving technologies and reference practices
If certification maintenance is not renewed, certification status becomes inactive. Professionals may reinstate active status at any time.
Delivery Format
PVA training is primarily conducted in person to allow direct interaction with measurement tools and live systems.
Live remote participation via Zoom is available and carries identical certification eligibility.
Private & Custom Programs
In addition to open enrollment courses, PVA offers targeted training and consulting programs tailored to specific audiences, including:
-
Manufacturer engineering teams
-
Manufacturer marketing and product teams
-
Distributor networks
-
Integrator groups
-
Color-critical industrial environments
These programs focus on standards alignment, performance benchmarking, workflow validation, and product optimization methodology.
