Joe Kane mentioned at INFOCOM that the HD Basics program was composed prior to Blu-ray winning the format war. He considered the HD DVD/SD combo version sufficient for more advanced test signals. It includes many more patterns than the new title. Now he is saying there will have to be an expanded BD version done.
The challenge to him now is realizing his return on investment from all the previous work and getting enough funds committed to start another new disc project. He said he would be happy to accept outside funding- on the order of, I think he said, $60,000.00. Perhaps ‘Avia 2’ on BD will beat him to it. There is still the AVS BD program as well. Personally, I haven’t attempted it yet.
