Ok my experiences with the HD950. Hmmm, where do I start. CMS worked well, but was a pain in the rear end. Did not seem to affect color or tint global controls at all, which was nice. The problem was the THX mode. Grayscale was off by quite a bit, and after entering the service menu, I only found controls for RGB gains…no offsets. I tried to see if the there was enough range in these controls to make the grayscale correct, but alas was not to be the case. I had to enter User 1 and use custom for both grayscale and CMS. I was able to get the DE down to 0.7. Other problem was that client had Stewart Grayhawk screen and refused to place lamp in high mode. Thus, seriously restricting light ouput on his 100″ screen to just under 9 ft/L without clipping. Had to really watch the clipping. Also, below black information would not be passed via the Oppo BD player unless PJ was placed in HDMI Input mode Enhanced. However, it would pass below black in Standard via HDMI using the Accupel 3000. Checked the BD player, and nothing amiss there as well as the Denon AVP. Not sure what was going on. Anyway, my report for anyone who may be remotely interested.
