Works pretty well. But this unit must have a problem. Gamma is off the chart. 3 years old unit.

many are not great, gamma of 2.0 when set to 2.6.
Dynamic iris also greatly affects the gamma too, try to turn off or use fields instead of windows.

Gregg you probably forgot but you gave me that recommendation a long time time ago.
Of course I measured with full field and dynamic iris turned off. I always do that. No this unit is especially bad I guess.

    Hello,
I read this document very carefully and it is very clear and detailed.
I just need some help adapting it to the calibration of a JVC N7 projector.
To be more specific, I want to make use of the Auto Picture Mode Select feature of the projector for HDR content.
As you know for that to work it has to be one of the few Picture Modes JVC proposes (see screenshot).
A lot of questions are raised about those Picture Modes.
What about Gamma? As advised we must use Gamma 2.4, but in those modes there is no Gamma setting available,
What about the HDR type? I know I won’t use the Frame Adapt because we already have the Radiance DTM doing that. So which one?
Also JVC’s Tone Mapping is always on (see screenshot). How does it need to be set for DTM to work right?
Of course I am referring to features that came with the latest JVC firmware and were not available or were maybe different when this document was made.

Thank you for all the help.

I need up update this slide deck to Lumagen’s latest version.

If using the Lumagen, all the JVC tone mapping is turned off, basically you are running the JVC in the brightest SDR mode possible with a gamma of 2.4 and rec2020 for dci-p3

In that case, and unless there is something basic that I do not understand, I would have to let go of the very nice JVC feature called Auto Picture Mode and the Lumagen specific feature called HDR flag. Because using an SDR picture mode means I cannot use one from the HDR10 Auto Picture Mode list proposed by JVC. This was the whole point of my question.
Jim, although he answered me briefly, said that he put the HDR flag in his firmware *expressly* for that purpose. But he didn’t explain to me which JVC picture mode I should choose and how to adapt it to the DTM needs.

Since you and Jim are very knowledgeable professionals my best guess is that I totally misunderstood something but I can’t put my finger on what exactly. I have been spending quite some time on the menus of JVC and Lumagen and cannot find the answer.

    hi Bernard
    I am not sure….
The Lumagen is designed to do the HDR work, it then passes the signal as an SDR signal to the JVC. This bypasses the JVC auto HDR features.

Jim@lumagen.com is Jims email. He is always helpful and is also available by phone too.

One more thing. We know that Calman isn’t yet ready for HDR Autocalibration. This is not relevant here since we let the Radiance do the HDR work as you said. But what about the 2020 colorspace? Do you run a 3D LUT on the 2020 or DCI colorspace? What are your thoughts about that? I finf the Gamma and greyscale Autocal great for 2020 although I have to go back several time to the JVC menus to readjust Brightness and contrast. In the end the result is stunning. But I am not sure about the colorspace.
The picture is beautiful and my guess is that the primaries and secondaries are not far enough from the target for my eyes to see an anomalie. But maybe there is room for improvement…. I will be glad if you could share your thoughts on that.

I did a 695 last week, gamma was terrible, funky and at around 1.8 with 2.6 selected. Using the updated software I was able to get it quite close to 2.4, and dramatically improved the image.

the new image director software is much improved for gamma manipulation and relatively easy to use.

Hi All, I received the latest Lumagen slide deck from Jim. I also inquired about creating a BT2020 3D LUT with CalMan and Jim confirmed that CalMan is still not able to do this. You need to use Colourspace software.
