I think that if it was priced in the under $50 price point to the calibrators, then we should have more incentive to pass it along to the clients.
Gregg and I pooled together and bought 200 of these things at $30 each. Factor in shipping and the Canadian dollar at the time we bought it and they cost me $40 each. While I don’t give these to everyone, I use the following criteria for these.
If the TV is a THX panel … I boost the price of calibration up by $25 and they get the kit regardless. I eat the $15 difference. Not too much to swallow.
If the TV has a functional CMS … ditto. Boost by $25.
If the unit is a projector with a CMS … the cost is boosted by $50 and they get the kit regardless. Then I get the extra $10 …
Everything seems to work out right now and I break even on this proposition. The projectors even out the small loss on the panel side. Clients all like the paper weight because they were not expecting it.
I’m not sure how many would like the wall plaque … or to pay extra for it. Maybe 1/4 of the people who got kits now care about such things. $45 max for a kit like this.
