I got a chance for some quality time in the store showroom floor with this new unit. A few gawks from passerbys …. what is that guy doing?
Good News:
WB controls are in the user menu. Full set of Gains and Bias controls. 6 in all.
Selectable gamma. -2 to +2
CMS Hue … Saturation … “Value?”
Bad News:
Color gamut is slightly less than 709 … clips a bit of the green to yellow sliver.
With gamma set to -2 … overall gamma is about 2.3.
Start with low color temp and the WB controls can get the image into line here. The other modes are too blue for the tv to fix the grayscale.
The Value part of the CMS is Brightness. The system seems to work and I could fix the brightness levels and the saturation and the hue. Saturation controls both brightness and saturation.
Did not appear to affect grayscale after the cms was worked on. Nice.
Got the color values under dE 2 for the most part … easy
A definite step up from those thin XS series ones that can’t be calibrated right.
