Just wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on attending CES. I’m sure many of you have gone in the past, and might have some thoughts to share on it.

I’ve never been myself, but reading that registration had opened, was contemplating if I should make the trip. (I’m assuming here of course that a calibration business is sufficiently part of the consumer electronics industry that I would even be permitted to attend….)

Anyone care to comment on whether it is worth it from a professional point of view? Obviously the tech geek part of me has wanted to go for a long time, but is it something that has benefit as calibrators, full-time, part-time or otherwise?

Just thought I would ask for some general opinions before I looked into it any further.

If you go to vegas for CES, you can come visit us in the THX classroom. We always welcome the alumni. What else will you get out of it other than running into other calibrators that you might recognize? I like the tech and the booth babes … did I mention booth babes …?

Will it improve you as a pro-calibrator? Not the show, but coming to revisit us in the class might. 🙂

If you have not attended other trade courses, like Home Acoustics Alliance class (HAA), it is a good time to do that as well. Oh, and did Michael mention the booth babes? It’s a good opportunity to 1) visit Vegas and 2) check out the latest TV’s as well.

    Michael,

I am also considering going to CES and am now checking out hotel rooms. I definitely want to attend any THX classes as a refresher plus any HAA classes. Can you tell me what dates you are planning for THX classes (or even HAA) so I can make sure my hotel stay covers them?

    Thanks, Larry

    Hey Larry,

The show runs tuesday to friday. 8/9/10/11

Our class is expected to run 12/13/14 … if going by the last few years. OR 11/12/13 (fri-sun)

    Nothing set in stone yet.

    Regards

It’s a fun tech show and an excuse to go to Vegas but it’s REALLY broad, just every little bit of consumer electronics you can think of and plenty that you can’t. It’s nothing like Cedia where it’s focused on our industry. More focused on big corporate business rather then dealer centric was my take the year I went also.

Thanks Michael. Hopefully THX training dates will be 11, 12 & 13 (Fri, Sat, Sun) so I can also attend HAA training which is currently scheduled for 14 thru 17 (Mon thru Thur). Any idea when you will firm up your schedule?

    Regards, Larry
