Im going to calibrate a pioneer kuro krp 500M this week, everything I read says I need either controlcal w/usb to rs232 adapter, or the pioneer isf program. Which one has more control options? Are they both pretty much the same or are there big differences in what they can do. Controcal costs a little bit so I figure it might be a better tool. Also, is there isf day and night modes that can be activated with either one of these programs? Thanks.

Control cal … and the profile. make sure the person has run the firmware update. he has to buy that from shawn separately for $100

or you just calibrate from the pure mode and forget about the isf modes.

The pioneer interface is unrealiable … and won’t work with the krp … no isf modes after all.

Thanks for the input Michael. Is the profile you are talking about the same profile that controlcal sells with the krp 500M bundle or is this something else that the actual customer needs to purchas?

you need the control cal program and the specific profile for the krp units … the program version is 1.47 … not 1.45

the client has to buy the firmware himself … although you can load it for him …or he can do it himself if savy

Once again thanks Michael. One last question, I am also going to calibrate a sharp aquos LC46D64U in two weeks, I have a friend who has one and I was messing with it earlier, I got into the service menu and saw alot of alien writing on it, are you familiar with that tv? I saw some gamma settings, it looked like a 6 point system but there is nowhere in the service manual that tells you the values for each setting. I’m flying blind here.
Should I just stick with the user menu settings? There is cms but it’s 12 points only, if I remember correctly in class you said it needs 18 points or else it won’t work right. Should I just leave it alone? Thanks.

The 12 point system can be made to kind of work …

treat the saturation controls like saturation / brightness controls and keep and eye on the dE 94 overall … you can actually make things a bit better. Treat this one as practice and an experiment.

the rgb gam 1/2/3/4/5/6 are loosely based on 20/35/50/65/80/95 patterns. start in the middle … and work outward.

    regards
