Over the last month ive calibrated both an epson tw6700 and tw6800. both times the gamma has been terrible.

i had to set the gamma settings ALL the way as low as they can go and i still didnt hit the correct gamma target – photos attached. when i check real video some shots look really dark but ive never watched it before i dont really have a reference movie that i use… i really need to get one.

has anyone else calibrated either projector lately and seen similar issues with the gamma?

hi Nathan!
Get out of BT 1886 as a target.
Reset the Epson custom controls.
Select the highest Epson gamma preset (2.6 I think?)
I have not found the Epson individual controls to be useful.

The epson gamma control is more like… 2 / 1 / 0 / -1 / -2

even running -2 only gives me a gamma of under 2. i should just accept that and move on?

For the first projector im pretty sure i actually used a gamma target of 2.4

so most likely -2…what does +2 give you ?

ah, this is a digital signage unit that they are advertising as a HT PJ ? My first clue is that the lense is not centered on the body. It also has 3000 lumens of light output. Gamma of 2.0 may be all that you can do with it.

You could add an eeColor box and create a LUT for 2.2, or a Lumagen video processor.

both of these jobs are very budget 🙂 what they have is what they get.

im not sure if thats what they are doing with this PJ, but its not like i can rule it out? ive calibrated one of the Epson TW-9200’s which is THX certified and its 2400 lumens and that came out really good! but that has a central lens so theres the difference i guess. The TW6800 is ISF certified but it doesnt really seem to matter.

ill just reset like you said and get it set with one of the preset figures and call it a day.
