Did my first Cal with ChromaPure Trial and just had a few questions (calibration was on a Samsung 32EH5300)

Gamma always seemed Diagnal no matter what I did around 2.4 on the 80/90 side and closer to 2 on the 30/40 side if I adjusted the game from -3 to +3 it would never straighten out just kept the same differential. I also tried to mess with the White Balance Gain/Offset and adjust all 6 Up/Down to try and tweak the Gamma and that seemed to help Gamma but then threw off other settings.

With the White Balance the 50-70 range seemed off the most, I adjust red on the offset up to help with the 50-70 range but wasn’t sure about going much higher without throwing off the 20-40 range.

I know the DE is under 3 but wasn’t sure if that was the best for this TV. Mainly I’m disappointed with the Gamma and have always seemed to have the hardest time with Gamma. Any thoughts would be appreciated. (wanted to send to you first before submitting incase there’s any tweaks to do)

    hi Michael
Always set the contrast at 85 on a Samsung. Then adjust the backlight to hit 35 fL
Make sure the black level is set correctly
Each time you select a gamma preset, re check the black level.
Gamma may not be perfect on these smaller displays, which are not very consistant, just pick the best preset closest to 2.2 overall.

    Good stuff!!

K, I’ll check the Samsung today and retry.

I’ve attached another example this one doesn’t give me a Gamma control, for being a $99 TV I was really impressed with the out of the box RGB Balance though.
On this TV I was watching the value’s and all the Gamma Values fell between 2.1-2.3 and then when it measured the 100 white at the end all the Gamma’s changed to around 1.2 am I doing something wrong or is that suppose to happen?
and if there is no direct Gamma control can the RGB Cut/Gain affect gamma on the Low/High end or is it not worth messing with? and as long as Brightness/Contrast/RGB are good call it done?

Gamma is actually measured from 100 down….so when the software starts at 0 or 10, it will reset / recalculate when it measures peak.

Gamma is not RBG cut and gain, it is inherent to the user mode or the gamma preset.

regarding setting the Samsung’s to 85 for Contrast, is it normal that when looking at the THX Contrast pattern I cannot see any of the white boxes on the bottom? I moved the contrast all around for kicks and it was 1 solid white box. I left Contrast at 85 and picture looks great, just curious if it’s normal on some set’s.

hi Michael. It is not normal to have only 1 white box with the THX pattern. Try it via the BD disc and see if you get the same result.

On early QD780 firmware / THX pattern combos, the whiter than white on the THX did not show up…but this was fixed. Verify with the THX Calibrator Disc.

Also, on the Samsung plasmas (8000 series), I am using a contrast setting of 95…which allows the 10 point WB controls to align nicely with the % of white increments.
