I had a chance to work on a samsung lasts years model un46b6000vf LCD/LED back light set last night. Interesting reading. The custmer is only using the time warner cable set top box. That is a older model with Component video output. so I hooked up the vp403c using Component video output to the tv set. I was using the calman software 3.7 with sencore OTC1000 (I just got back from SpectraCal) Is I wanted to try it out on a LCD/LED set the results were ?.

In movie mode I tried the calibration there but quickly realized that the TV could not be properly set up there as the grayscale controls simply did not have enough range. The picture was changing color from redist to green tint. 20 ire & under was very bad. I started work on 30 ire got RGB to line up butt I had to pull red & blue all the way down to zero. pushed green up to do it. 40 ire RGB was high. Ok So I started on 70 80 ire same thing. red & blue had to be pulled down to zero 0 pushed green way up to 37. butt 50 60 ire fell in line the picture was very green tinted. had to arrow down to reset. & leave it for now. I also saw the same things happening in the gamma settings
    0 +1 I was getting readings of more then 3.0. +2 +3 I was reading 2.8 2.6 never was able to get a reading of 2.5 – 2.2. cherked -2 -1 noting

    Greetings

On these sets, the service menu has far more range for grayscale. The work should be done there. It’s in the advanced section in the SM.

This is not the master grayscale of the tv either.

On some units, the dark end looks blue when 30/80 are calibrated. You have to fix the dark end by eye and sacrifice the 30 to do that.

    regards

On these sets make sure to use full fields rather than windows. Windows can trigger the LED dimming.
