    Hi Guys,
I just purchased one of these and took a peak in the SM only to find something unfamiliar. Under the WB section, there is a feature called “method” which has four options, 00, 01, 02, and 03. Does anyone know what these do?

    Hi Vince,

From what I’ve read and done with these, it appears the 00 setting allows calibration of Cool/Normal/Warm color temperatures independent of each other. It’s recommended to set it a ’00’.

    Best,
    Greg

Thanks Greg. I’ll stick with that setting.

If you pick one of the others … it does not always reflect in the user side … as well as having to press enter on the remote to save everything you do.

    00 is the preferred method.

Don’t forget that you can make Warm/normal and cool all the same if you want. They are merely place holders for numbers.

For some clients, I make them all the same so they cannot watch a blue picture even if they want to. 🙂

    regards

    Hello Gang,
I decided to recalibrate my TV after 6 months in use. I am calibrating the Thx mode. My problem is with setting the black level. Whether using the pluge from my VP403 or the black level step pattern for a Bluray, I cannot get the below 16 to flash even with brightness at 100. I didn’t have this problem when it was new. One oddity is that when the user menu is on screen, I can see 16 and below flashing.

My original calibration had brightness at 61. Looking through the user menu, 61 is still correct. I set the video to auto, standard (16-235) and non-standard and it does not seem to make any difference. Black level is set to low. I am using HDMI 3.

What is crushing the blacks? Thanks for the help.

Sometimes the generator does not output right if set to 422 versus RGB let’s say.
What BD player do you have?

Have you looked for BTB in the custom mode or standard mode …?

    Hi Michael
The BD pplayer is a Panasonic DMP BDT110. Custom and Thx seem to be about the same. Standard uses a setting of 76 brightness to get right. I tried setting the BD to rgb,4:2:2 and4:4:4 with no change. The output of the generator is not adjustable, just dvi/hd.

    Hi Vince,

Is your black level set to Light or Dark? (you mentioned it was set to ‘low’ – is that dark?) If so, have you tried changing that to light?

Did you also use the VP403 six months ago when you calibrated it and were you able to see the BTB on the test pattern? Also wanted to ask you if you’re connecting the VP403 directly to the display when you’re putting up the patterns, or if you’re running it through an AVR.

    Hi Gregg,
Yes, it is set to light and yes, I did use the same VP403 originally.

Why can I see the darker levels, <16, flashing behind the user menu and not when the user menu is off?

Very good question…I’m still pondering that one.
