Hi, I’ve been asked by a potential client whether I can calibrate his PC monitor. He uses it to produce TV programmes for the BBC. Given that this is so I’m more than a bit surprised that his only monitor is a Dell Ultrasharp U2713HM AH IPS – about £500!

Does any one else do monitor calibration? I have an i1Pro and i1DisplayPro with Chromapure and Accupel signal generator. I’ve installed the i1Pro software on my laptop and it seems really basic, only apparently calibrating the white point. The client wants his monitor calibrating to Rec 709. Any ideas? Do I need to buy some software to install on his PC and run the calibration from there?

    Thanks

Really need to get back to my client about this. In fact I now have another client enquiry regarding monitor calibration. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

The Xrite software is the only way to maintain a level of consistency with computer monitors. Video cards and driver updates will often mess up manual attempts to adjust thsoe same video cards manually.

You will not get fine precision with those controls.

If they really care, then they are putting a LUT on it first … external box. Short of wanting to spend that level of money … the ICC profiles are better than the manual method.

    Hi Michael,

Which particular X-Rite software would you recommend because the one that came bundled with my i1 Pro is pretty useless?

The software that comes with the colormunki photo is actually pretty decent.

I’d take it over fiddling with the video card controls on my computers. Try to do multipoint … then put up a ramp and see how awful it looks. I did one pass with the munki and it looked comparable to the Sony display I use as the main computer monitor in the system. That is just a TV and I did the calibration with the custom area like all sony sets.

I don’t know how the xrite i1 pro software works though …

What about CalmanPC? I did couple of calibrations and got great results.
No diver update since then, so no change so far.

    Regards
