Working on a PT-AE2000 from about 2 years ago. While trying to adjust the greyscale a small change on the bias or gains sends everything out on the entire scale (expect for the IRE I’m tweaking) I understand that changing Contrast can affect Black level but it seemed this unit is to the 100th degree. Is there something that I’m missing on this?

its been a while since Ive done one….
try resetting the controls and only adjusting the gains.
first ensure that you are in the closest temp preset to D65.

I set it to Cinema 1.
On initial run through the grayscale look good overall. On my next visit i’ll try adjusting the gains only. It also has 3 point gamma (low, mid, high) with +/-8 on each.
    Thanks for the help.
    Cheers

your contrast may be too high. if you set it up only using the above white bar just before clipping, you can’t stop there (as 100% will always be too green and you can’t adjust your HIGHS to correct the whole grayscale). Check for discolouration in the step pattern and I guarantee you’ll need to lower the contrast. After doing so, grayscale will be more even and your controls won’t throw everything out of wack.
