    Hi,

Although I’ve got a number of VT65s booked for calibration I’ve not managed to get my hands dirty with one yet. So it makes it difficult to respond to one of my clients who is asking for recommended settings for running it in. Can anyone advise? With a VT50 I would normally say to activate a Pro mode, make sure orbiter is on and reduce the contrast to 30. But what about the VT65?

    Greetings
start in the THX mode … which is normally what we do on this side of the pond.

Not much changed from the vt 20 to 25 to 30 to 50 … no reason to expect some massive change this year. Worrying about nothing. 🙂 Just deal with it from first principles.

You do enough tvs, you realize they are more the same than different … no sense getting worked up over it.

It’s more the fact that my client wants to know which mode to run his TV in and how high to put contrast as it runs in for the first 200 hours because he’s anxious about screen burn. We haven’t had a panel brightness setting over here until this year. So should he set that on low while running in? And isn’t the orbiter switched off in THX mode?

In the grand scheme of things, break in over 100 hours or 200 doesn’t matter. As long as they mix up the programming … where to set contrast makes no big difference … although higher might be considered to be better than lower. Just watch the programming and be responsible about it. Is that really that much to ask a person?

I’ve done so many sets brand new out of the box … a few hours … and I come back in 4 months and retweak and find that I am only making a click or two difference. Nothing anybody could see. This is all well below dE 3 stuff. Then I come back 6 months later and retweak again … and I make another click or two change. Again no human can see this type of change.

So was the first 4 months a result of break in … and not just normal wear and tear? What about the second 6 months? Sure looks like normal drift in all cases … nothing to do with some need to break the TV in.

Of course if a person wants to be irrational about stuff .. then let them be. I don’t deal with irrational fears …

    Regards
