Hi, I have to calibrate a Sony VPL-HW30ES tomorrow. I’m just wondering whether Sony have fixed the RCP on this projector as many authoritative reviews have stated that it was faulty. One review I read said that Sony had released a firmware to fix it but I can’t find any firmware updates for the VPL-HW30ES anywhere, either on the US or UK Sony sites. Is RCP best left untouched? I did on AVS that ChadB managed to use the Hue settings without introducing artefacts, but that Hue adjustments are about all that work.

    Thanks.

    Greetings

I’ve gotten them close and used the real color for brightness balancing and fixing hue … nothing stood out as looking wrong.

Thanks. So the RCP works? I must admit I’ve done the job already now and steered clear of using the RCP because I wasn’t sure and didn’t have the time to experiment. All went well though. Got terrific greyscale and gamma results and just selected normal for the colour gamut. It was slightly desaturated but in the end colour errors were all below 2. I was pretty impressed with the HW30ES. Great blacks, good contrast. 3D was a bit dim compared to others in it’s category but a very good all round projector.

If anyone needs the latest firmware for the HW30 (v1.03), send me an email. It is a strait forward upgrade process via RS232. Upgrade includes instructions

    EDIT:

Uploaded the zip file from Sony. The password to open the file is: sony
    The firmware is v 1.03

If your not shure of the projectors firmware edition, enter the service menu by entering: Enter, Enter, Left, Enter The info menu will now show firmware version.

Please do not distribute online, as the file is traceable (unique file given to me after identifying what caused the CMS-bugg in original firmware).
