Sony VPL-VW70 projector

Does anyone know if it’s necessary to use the the service menu to calibrate this projector fully?

I’m a bit unfamiliar with Sony projectors, and I don’t see anything in the manual for adjustment of RGB gains/offsets in the user menu. I’m also not sure if the RCP is just a partially implemented CMS or exactly what it does.

RCP has never worked right, but you might be able to salvage something out of it. Keep an eye on the end result. It may help evening out the brightness levels of the colors. On a recent Sony projector, I had to pick the wide gamut to start with as the standard gamut was smaller than 709.

Sony projectors typically have 6 color temp settings. low mid high and custom 123. (Service access needed to write into the low mid high area)

do not expect black levels like on the JVC units.
