    Some light moments…

During class, this point stuck by me more than the rest… Don’t expect the phone to start ringing just becoz ur name is on the website….

I have been doing calibrations for almost 3-4yrs before I decided last year that I shd complete my certification. I completed THX 1st then did ISF later last year. And sure enuf, Michael’s words was true. In Malaysia, the population is only 28million and most of the jobs I got were based on the local forum and some dealers who call me as an added service to their customers. Not much, but its a fun job and my intentions were never to make this my primary job anyway.I got to play with the latest displays and got to upgrade my gear along the way.

Still, it came as a big surprise to me when after being listed in the THX website for almost 8 months now, someone actually CALLED yesterday. The person told me that he saw my name in the website and decided to call for a chat. (He did not really call for a calibration as he msunderstood and though I was HT certified but its a call anyway):D

So Michael, it rang for me ONCE!;)

Yeah…probably. He was more interested in HomeTheater and since I’m not an installer, there was nothing much to talk about except on HomeTheater equipment and different brands etc…He did have a display but did not seem interested in getting it calibrated. Maybe if he calls back, I shd try telling him the benefits…

Still I was really amused that I got an enquiry from the website…

I have been THX Certified and listed on their web site since 2002. No one has ever called me as a result of seeing my listing there, and I consistently ask new contacts how they heard about my company.

I’m still waiting for my phone to ring with the person willing to pay $300 bucks. I do get many guys calling wanting setup installing help for $40 to $60 bucks. I have learned that Its best to leave the calibration gear home, intel the customer is asking for a better picture & sound.

I’ve been on since I got my HT cert in 2005 and got two inquiries about HT a long time ago that led no where and then recently a call from Saudi Arabia. Since picking up Video I actually get 2-5 emails a year, but it’s always “give me a price to calibrate my $700 Panisonic” and then I never hear back after that. I stopped following up as with Chicago Traffic I’m not up for chasing cheap work in the burbs. All the jobs I get are word of mouth including dealers, friends and product reps. Shockingly many of the dealers sell a different TV to every client so a little coaching there can go a long way. So I do get inquiries off of thx.com just nothing too fruitful.
