I calibrated a Samsung LN55C650 this week for HDMI-1/2 Cal Day/Night. The client wanted to know how to adjust picture settings when watching Netflix (Samsung USB wireless adapter attached directly to the TV’s USB port) which I wasn’t really familiar with. In trying to access the picture settings I finally figured out that I had to use the Tools button on the remote and then select Picture when that came up and then go into the settings menus from there. That seemed to work to his satisfaction since he could now easily select Cal Day/Night from there for watching Netflix movies.

I didn’t notice whether this was the case at the time I was there, but the client now reports that when he’s watching Netflix the Tint control is not appearing in any of the adjustments menus ( including Cal Day/Night), but all the other adjustments, e.g., backlight, contrast, etc, are available. The Tint control appears to be missing from the settings only when he’s watching Netflix, not when he goes into the settings menus if he’s using either the HDMI 1 or 2 inputs (cable, blu-ray).

Has anyone encountered this before? Know a fix, or if there is anything the client can/should do about it?

    Thanks!

    Greg

    hi Greg
First, thanks for editing the video exams!!
Second, the samsung is probably working in rgb color space and there is no tint in rgb.

Thanks, Gregg. (And you’re very welcome! It really was my pleasure. Hope they’re working out okay.)

I kind of figured that since the only time I’ve ever seen no color/tint is with DVI/RGB stuff, but I couldn’t imagine why the TV thinks the Netflix input is RGB. Seems weird to me, but I certainly agree that’s probably what’s going on.

    Thanks again!!

Just an update on my original question….

I’ve calibrated a few 2010 Samsung TVs this past week and ALL of them have limited settings available to adjust when accessing Internet@TV through the TV. (No tint, and only a selected few settings available from the Advanced or Picture settings menus.)

Apparently, the only way to have access to things like Netflix and still have a full range of adjustments available is to use a Netflix-enabled (or whatever-enabled) blu-ray player so the TV is using the same input as for blu-rays.

Weird why Samsung would do that. I’m sure there’s a reason…

    Best,
    Greg
