    hi guys

I wanted to do a quick comment on the Vizio 80 inch LED panel.
This thing is frkn huge!! What ever it lacks of in quality…it more than makes back in size!

I was called to calibrate this beast at a established client’s home. After doing my basic tweeking, I was able to achieve a very nice 33-35 fL of light output. This is quite huge when the size is considered. I turned off the adv localized dimming and the 240 hz processing. The gray scale tweeked out quite flat and the gamma dialed in to 2.35. I was very happy with the results.

Then we moved on to the color decoding. It was NOT good. The final color setting was at 38 (center point being 50). While we were not too close to rec709 gamut flesh tones did look good and I would be happy to watch this display for a movie. Fortunately, the customer had a DVDO DUO. Using the duo to further tweek the colors and by using 75% saturation and luma points (an advanced technique) vs the traditional 100% saturation points. Most of the deltaE color errors dramatically dropped to acceptable levels.

So my summarized opinion: Great display for the size and when a front projector system is not practical. Strongly consider mating it with a DVDO DUO processor for more accurate colors.

All for now, Ill try to post some calibration charts later today.

I posted this on hometheaterforum earlier today and thought I should post it here too.

    Gregg,

To clarify, you turned off localized dimming during the calibration but turned it back on when finished. Correct?

On a related note, Vizio will be supplying a display for the post CES 2014 class and will also be in attendance.
