I just ran across my first Vizio LCD display with LED local dimming backlight. Is it best to set the black and white levels with LED local dimming turned off or on? What about the rest of the calibration process?

    Thanks, Larry

Turn off the localized dimming for the entire calibration. It can mess with the patterns. IF you want to leave it on, then all patterns must be fields rather than windows.

This will be the case with all localised LED dimming displays? I’m due to calibrate an LG LX9900 tomorrow with localised dimming so I could do with a quick answer. The AVForums review recommended leaving the dimming on to get the best black level/contrast performance. If I calibrate with dimming switched off and then switch it back on afterwards will it cause black crushing etc?

Calibrate with it off … and then turn it on after the calibration. Don’t want it messing with your test patterns.
