Watch out for this in the custom mode. Latest firmware … the 10 point gamma appears to work on paper as the graph looks great but real images look wrong. Most noticeable in the flesh tones … like parts of a persons face are blown out / over exposed.

subtle shading lost in the fleshtones. Only until i reset all gamma values did the fleshtones look right again.

This does not affect the THX mode.

    regards

It’s nice to see you guys catching up with us. The UK (and presumably Euro) VT30’s have done this from the start. The gamma controls can only be used very lightly, if at all.

So basically don’t use the gamma controls? And I’ve also been advised to avoid using the CMS if at all possible. Does anything work on the VT30? I’m calibrating my first one tomorrow and it would be nice to have a quick summary of the things to avoid.

Generally … the good reference calibration will be the THX mode one. The custom mode can then be used to create that Day mode version … much brighter. The 10 point grayscale does work in the custom mode … but since you are dealing with a day mode … try to start with the wide color triangle and only deal with the brightness of the colors … not the xy position. Room light shrinks the triangle anyway for the human eye.
