Inactive[THIS UPDATE IS FOR NORTH AMERICAN MODELS ONLY]
Apparently, Panasonic did post (11/11/2011) firmware v2.10 for the VT30’s (and GT30’s) after the VE Shootout… basically the same firmware that was used on the VT30 in that shootout (with a few additional changes for Color luminance issues when using Panel Brightness Medium). IMO, they sure didn’t do a good job letting the installers know.
It’s labeled ‘For professional installer only‘.
You will probably find that it has improved a bit when using Panel Brightness Medium.. perhaps a Color Setting of around 44-48 vs ~36… this update does nothing for color decoding.
You must install it via SD or USB thumbdrive.

Who knows if there will be another version available via this ‘For professional installer only‘ area.. As usual, don’t expect (IMO) decoding to get fixed in the Panasonics this year.
BTW, if you network update to v2.2 (or future network updates), the LSI updates this special v2.1 version makes will not be changed….

InactiveProbably a stupid question – but I’m going to ask anyway!
Why does the TINT control not appear on UK VT30s (THX mode, HDMI input, using NTSC DVD)?Just need to give a client the reason and my mind has gone blank..

KeymasterTint doesnt exist, or shouldnt exist, if the color decoding is properly performed.

InactiveJust got a 55vt30 🙂 and have a few questions,
I started with ControlCal and ISF Day/Night Firmware 2.1, but after reading through everything it sounds like I should stick with THX Mode?
When Calibrating with ISF 10pt do I make any adjustments to the 30/80 2pt or leave those at 0 and just adjust 10pt. I was getting perfect readings except for 60/70% were way out of whack. I was having to move 60-blue down to -30 but 10-50% we’re only adjusting between 1-5 +/- is this normal?
Now that I have this TV is there any need for a DVDO Duo?

InactiveHi Michael,
If you have a VT30 at home, I suggest calibrating all those modes… Most Calibrators I get feedback from are calibrating the ISFccc Interface (with 2.1 applied) as well as THX.. For High/Lows, you may want to use 30/100 vs 30/80. Some guys are skipping High/Lows and just using the 10pt. You may want to try the Gamma preset to 2.4. Since you will most likely be calibrating VT30’s where there isn’t a Duo in the loop, I suggest taking the time to learn the VT30.. you have the advantage of having a VT30 at home. Do click the OSD Off Button.

InactiveRunning into a major problem I have a VP401 and it’s throwing off my calibrations since it’s RGB and not YcCbCr, I’ve also got a DPG-1400 and a DVDO Duo Can either of these be used to do the calibration and then take them out of the loop?
I know with the DPG-1400 I can set to YcCbCr (12bit/8bit?)
I can borrow a Blu-Ray Player if needed
Don’t want the Duo on this TV long term since the TV has all the controls.is there any listing of TV’s that the VP401 doesn’t work for? and is this a common problem with newer TV’s?
Trying to look for an accurate alternative until I can afford an Accupel

InactiveGreetings
An oppo will serve as a temp generator … so will a PS3 if you set it up right. Look for the original WDTV box as it may be more reliable as a generator box than the 1400 you have. Usually less than $100 on ebay … easy.
regards

Inactiveis there a way to know ahead of time if a TV can needs RGB or Yc? and is the VP401 still worth keeping for older TV’s?
March 6, 2012 at 7:57 pm #2506Anonymous
InactiveI don’t know about knowing ahead of time. The 401’s time has come and gone. Good for component video though as the WDTV box (aka DPG) has no component output nor does the accupel.

Keymasteryeah….i keep an old accupel for svideo and component output. The 4000 accupel also has issues on some panels and passing the signal (mainly noticed with certain AVRs)

InactiveI have done some research online that indicates that there is a firmware update that needs to be applied to the set in order for the custom calibration to be correct (http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20071241-1/panasonic-updates-vt30-plasma-tv-firmware/?tag=contentMain;contentBody;4n

Inactivei have been back to re-do 2 VT30’s with the 2.1 update
i am still getting bizarre results with ISF-Day/Night (you’re right Mike O – why am doing them?)
i am using CalMan 4.6 via IP & using automatic
i did HDMI1 and everything went well, but i noticed that brightness for day was @43, where night was @55 (odd, you would think they both started the same)
also, contrast @100 on day you could barely see the pluge lines (dropping contrast did not change this), night @100 the lines were quite visible
i moved to HDMI3 and this time brightness on day @55, night was about the same – this was the BD input so i loaded up Jennifer
on day she looked fine, but on night every freckle on her face seemed exaggerated
we loaded Braveheart, same thing, all imperfections on the face were exaggerated
loaded Starwars, Anakin & the princess are walking into a palace and the cloak that Anakin is wearing has pink highlights, i have to drop the contrast to 33
now the freckles aren’t exaggerated, but the picture is too dim to be watchable
told him to use day modeswitched to HDMI1 (OTA box) – this time night mode looked much better than day
this is the 2nd set i have tried to fix & i had similar results on the 1st, especially the exaggerated freckles in night mode
i think i will stick to just using the user & regular service menu
