I calibrated the THX mode, adjusting gray scale on the service side. It is the same procedure I have used on the last few lines of Panny PDP’s. 😡

I have to calibrate a new TC-P65VT25. How did you access the service menu on the one you calibrated? The SM assess instructions for previous Panasonic models shown on THX Video Tech don’t seem to work.

Additional Information on the JVC RS20 Firmware Update 1.1:
First and foremost, it extends the range of the built-in CMS so calibrators can easily correct the color gamut to conform to Rec 709. The adjustment range is now from -60 to 60 versus -30 to 30 in the original firmware.
Second, it improves the IR remote control performance and connectivity.
The firmware can be obtained at http://www.jvc.com/. Click “Support and Service” in the lower right hand section of the webpage. Then click “Software” under the “Downloads” heading.

I am a JVC Pro reseller and was just notified that JVC Professional has a firmware update for the RS20. It will address issues with the remote control operation and CMS usability, according to the JVC Region Mgr here in the Western USA. I just calibrated an RS20 using the RGB Gains/Offsets in Custom 1 mode and got everything to track except the Rec 709 color gamut. Settings were Contrast -26, Brightness 10, Color 2, Tint 1, Red Gain -28, Green Gain -33, Blue Gain, -87, Red Offset -37, Green Offset -36, Blue Offset -29. Jennifer looked very good and the blu-ray movie performance was the best I’ve seen. The THX mode was close to Rec 709; the THX RGB levels were good overall with Blue being off 5%-8% worst case and Red/Green being spot on across the range.

Although the PT-AE2000U reviews are quite positive, the unit has a flaw which prevents me from recommending it when asked. The inadequate seal around the optics and LCD panels can let dust particles in causing random ugly red, green, or blue tinted shadows, depending on what LCD panel is contaminated, on the projected image. I am not aware of a reliable work-around or fix for this problem from either Panasonic or users. This is a chronic problem in Nevada with our arid climate.
