ParticipantYou can use the Optoma HD81 with the
lumagen radiance unit or dvdo iduo. just remeber that you will have all you video HDMI inputs outputs going though the lumagen or dvdo iduo unit to the projector. You will still need to just have the Optoma HD81 serial RS-232 port cable connected to the projector & Optoma HD81 imaging processor so the remote still works to turn on off the projector.September 15, 2013 at 11:44 pm in reply to: CEDIA 2013 – Denver. Not unless Martin Scorsese will be stopping by to watch a movie with you! It’s hard to justify spending one-third to one-quarter of the cost of many TVs on calibration. And most consumers don’t really need it.
New TVs have preset modes that get you close enough to a professional calibration to satisfy even picky viewers. Choose a picture mode such as THX, Movie, or Cinema, turn down sharpness, and turn off noise reduction and “dynamic” control features, and you’ll probably be very happy with the picture quality.
If you want to go further, try the THX Optimizer that comes free with many DVDs and Blu-ray discs, or try a calibration disc from Avia, Video Essentials, or Spears and Munsil.
Having said that, if you’re a perfectionist with an expensive home theater, you might want to consider professional calibration. Be sure it’s done by an industry-certified professional.
ParticipantI have decided not to spent money & buy the spectracal C6. I am quilt happy just using my OTC100, hubble to calibrate my DLP rear , SXRB front projectors. When need be using CalMAN 5 Ultimate I think it works nicely with my lumagen radiance units. the phone does not ring anyways… I do send it out to spectracal calibration lab every year..
Participantits to bad that the THX Tune-Up iOS app does not work on my ipad1. maybe they could of come out with a basic version like the isf hdtv calibrator app..

ParticipantI would Like to know more about the (DARBEE Visual Presence DVP 5000) would it better then using say the DVDO edge green. I am used to seeing video form my lumagen Radiance video processor I have hooked up to my TV downstirs. I now have another tv in my bedroom that I an looking for a video processor to use. should I buy the DARBEE or get the DVDO unit?

ParticipantI’m still waiting for my phone to ring with the person willing to pay $300 bucks. I do get many guys calling wanting setup installing help for $40 to $60 bucks. I have learned that Its best to leave the calibration gear home, intel the customer is asking for a better picture & sound.

ParticipantI love my Lumagen radiance unit. I am always able to bring in the primary & secondary colors to there zero target line on the CMS workflow page using calman. (sometimes the picute when all said & done looks like cheap) you mybe up against the pioneer with a setting that is a preset color gamut in the pioneer video processor..
